Digital Storytelling in German

Storytelling is an ancient art that encourages creativity and the sharing of knowledge. Digital tools allow us to create stories quickly and share them to a wider audience.

In this example, students studying German applied their knowledge and understanding of German to a conversational story, using PicCollage to animate the discussion with speech bubbles.

Thanks to Mrs. Campiche and her students for this example.

Collaborative Revision with Quizlet Live

Quizlet Live is a fantastic tool for reviewing, consolidating and evaluating learning. Students are automatically grouped together in teams and are then asked questions about a set of flashcards on Quizlet. The interesting thing is that all students have different answers on their screen, but only one screen has the right answer – forcing students to collaborate, question and clarify the correct response.

This example comes from a biology class in the secondary school where students were revising for a quiz on human impacts on the environment. Thanks to Mrs. Egli.IMG_9222

Organise big ideas more easily

iThoughts is a great tool to organise big ideas. Not only is it clear, easy to read and shareable, but more importantly, it can be modified as new information is added and has no limits to its size – important when discussing big ideas.

Many thanks to Mr. Sykes and the 11IGCSE students for this example of how technology supports learning in History.Screen Shot 2016-05-03 at 09.17.14

Deeper learning with videos

Here our year 10 bilingual geography students are creating a video explaining the science behind earthquakes and volcanoes.

There are multiple advantages for learning. Students have to edit the content, which means multiple review cycles and increased exposure to content. The authentic context also leads to increased student engagement and motivation. And students have fun while learning!

Exploring physical and human geography through digital storytelling

In Year 8 bilingual geography, students are exploring the physical and human geography of South America. Online content gives students access to a rich supply of information, images and maps that they can explore at their own pace.

Puppet Edu is a great app for digital storytelling. Students can add images, video and record their voice explaining the story, which also gives them extra practice for their speaking skills in English.
