wifi gifThe WiFi network at Collège Champittet has been expanded to allow for improved Internet connection with mobile devices. This install occurred in the 2012/13 academic year and permits connection to the Internet from any building in the school.

Information regarding the safety of WiFi networks is highly varied. During the planning stages of our WiFi expansion we made extensive research to ensure that our system was of the highest quality and posed no health risks to our students. Our decisions for this were based upon official communication from the World Health Organisation on Electromagnetic Fields and Public Health.

The conclusions of this document are as follows:

“Considering the very low exposure levels and research results collected to date, there is no convincing scientific evidence that the weak RF signals from base stations and wireless networks cause adverse health effects.”

This information is corroborated by the findings of the Swiss Confederation, in their article regarding the use of WLAN networks.

The conclusions of this document are as follows:

It is currently not known whether the electromagnetic fields created by WLANs pose a risk to health.

Our decision to expand the school WiFi network is based upon all of the evidence that is currently available from peer-reviewed scientific sources.
